Its all in the name
In my last post, I shared our why—how we arrived here and what we hope to build. A few of you reached out afterward with a great question: Where did the name come from?
Well, there’s the public explanation…and then there’s a little extra we usually leave out. I’ll start with the more public part of the story.
When we were searching for land, we first purchased a small parcel perched on the top of a ridge. It was one of those you had me at hello moments—absolutely breathtaking. While walking the property, we noticed something across the road: old sheds with tin roofs and at least one visible homestead foundation. We couldn’t stop talking about how beautiful the land was or wondering about the lives and stories tied to those buildings.
Six months later, we were stunned to see that very property listed for sale. We didn’t hesitate—we jumped on it.
As we began exploring the old home foundation, layers of history emerged. The land had once been farmed, and we also learned it had a colorful past that included a little moonshine. What struck us most, though, was the resilience of those structures. After decades—many, many years—of harsh winds on the ridge, they were still standing. Bent, worn, and weathered… but upright.
That strength and perseverance stayed with us. We wanted the farm’s name to honor that kind of resilience, so Weathered Tin Farm was born. End of the public story.
Now for the bonus layer.
We also loved the idea of a double meaning—especially if it made us laugh. If you’ve been following along, you know our journey hasn’t been without mistakes, mishaps, and more than a few challenges. One moment that still stands out? I managed to get my wrist stuck in the tractor root rake. Let’s just say a few choice words were used… by both of us.
Those words happened to align perfectly with the acronym for our farm name.
If it’s not immediately obvious, I’ll let you sit with that for a minute.
All I’ll say is this: every time I abbreviate the farm name—like when creating yet another folder for our growing pile of receipts—it still makes me laugh. And honestly, that feels just right.
In the end, the name fits more than we ever expected. Weathered Tin Farm is a reminder that beauty doesn’t require perfection, that strength often comes from being tested, and that growth—whether in the soil or in ourselves—happens when we keep showing up. That belief sits at the heart of our why, and it’s what we hope this farm reflects every day.
